Kateryna Korolevtseva at the V&A

As part of Complete’s ongoing relationship with the V&A, we recently reproduced posters by font and visual identity designer Kateryna Korolevtseva.

Specialsing in fonts inspired by Ukrainian vernacular typography and architecture, Korolevtseva created her first font design Misto, which translates from Ukrainian for ‘city’

Misto was first used by designers in communications material, publications and events in support of Ukraine. Significantly, it was used as part of the visual identity created for Café Kyiv, Berlin, a high profile cultural and political programme of events organized by the Konrad‑Adenauer‑Stiftung in 2023 to show solidarity with Ukraine as well as in biannual fashion journal, Love (magazine). It illustrates how a typeface can move between different forms of communications and geographies yet retain its personality and impact. This digital print was produced as a test sheet and adjustments to the design are annotated on its surface.
